On 21 November 2015, at the Birmingham Pup the first Mr. Puppy UK was elected. Seven puppies competed, judged by a team of five that all come from different areas. Over a full afternoon, the seven contestants competed across three fields: Dog Agility, Personal Interview, Public Performance. Eventually, the judges came to a decision through their scoring, and elected Pup Zentai Spot as Mr Puppy UK 2015, followed up by Pup Minty and Pup Oakleigh. We had a little chat with the lucky number one.
Sev: Hi Spot, thank you for letting us poke our dognoses in your life for a bit. How do you feel as the newly elected Mr. Puppy UK?
Spot: It feels great, I’m still a bit unsure as to what it will bring, but as the year progresses I’m sure it will be fun.
Sev: Now first I want to ask you some things about yourself. Im sure some readers probably guessed your favorite fetish by now 😉 How did you get hooked on that? And what do you like about it?
Spot: Am I really that obvious! ;)… so how did I get hooked onto pup play, well it all started quite a number of years ago. I have always liked lycra and skintight clothing, and over time it went from simple inexpensive running gear through to pro-swim wear (which is hard to find in full body variants) and then eventually onto being zentai (these days more commonly known as morphsuits. My partner, at the time, couldn’t get their head round the zentai, until one day they saw it in the Dalmatian print style. It was they who said ‘I can allow that, as it’s no different to dressing up in costume’. So I bought one. From there it went spiralling into the Dalmatian Puppy you see these days. Though if you go back prior to the Zentai purchase, I had worn a dog collar a few times during play sessions, and I found it enjoyable, but at the time I didn’t quite know why!
What do I like about being a puppy – that comes from being able to escape from normality, money is no worry, nor is work or home life… it’s just a means of being able to switch off human senses and disappear into an alternative head space. it’s not too dissimilar to meditation – it gives me a chance to clear my mind and have play time.
Puppy play and the Skintight Clothing are probably the primary fetishes for me. I do also really enjoy ElectroSex and bondage, they would be high up on the list. I probably dabble in other fetish areas, but not often enough to count them as one of my fetishes though.
Sev: And what sparked your interest on the Puppy election? And how was it being on the stage? Do you have any memorable moments?
Spot: I saw the website for Mr Puppy UK due to a to a tweet that appeared on my twitter time line. Shortly after this I had the comment from a few people I know saying that I ought to enter.
I took some time to think about the competition and if it would work with what I do as a job (it often involves weekends and evening, so I wanted to be sure I’d be able to commit)… it was about a week before the competition I finally decided I would enter, but that nearly didn’t happen since I may have needed to head to work… luckily cover was available and so I was able to go. on the Thursday before the competition, I registered on the Mr Puppy UK website, and then the big day came… due to various reasons on the day I almost decided not to participate, however I realised I’d be daft not to try, and I know I’d also be cross at myself if I didn’t participate… so I went and registered, did the necessary paperwork and then let the competition begin!
It did pay off!
Being in the ‘stage’ was fun – I wouldn’t do public events as my normal self, for some reason I’m shy. However, when I’m as my pup self, I seem to really enjoy public outings and have fun. My inhibitions are gone when I’m in the pup environment.
Memorable moments, Hmmmm…. when as my pup self I don’t seem to really memorise much, I live in the moment and have fun. I know I was a mischievous pup and had fun. I do remember ’steeling bits from the obstacles course before we have even started :). I also remember being a good pup when it came to the talent competition until the treats got thrown on the floor, at which point I did what all good pups do, and munched as much as I could in the time given. the elimination round was nerve-wracking. When it came to the final 3, that was very scary… I know that Pup Minty and I were cuddling so tight that we could feel each other shaking with fear & excitement. All in all a really fun and memorable day though, even if quite a bit of it was a blur.
Sev: What do you think made the judges see you as their Mr. Puppy and what do you see important for that role?
Spot: Hmmmm, hopefully the judges made their decision on what they saw of me on the day – just being a playful approachable puppy wags
Important aspects for being Mr Puppy UK probably best include being friendly and approachable, memorable and fun. mainly because as Mr Puppy UK will be the ‘face’ of the pup community at various events and is there to promote the pup community, not just inside the fetish scene, but also to the public so that people get an understanding of the pup world.
In the UK think we are open minded enough to accept pup play as a fetish. It’s still not as main-stream as some other fetishes on there, and so pup play is sometimes seen as odd. Most of the time, once the public have had a chance to chat to either a pup, or a handler, they understand it more and embrace it. Quite often the public will get involved with giving the human pups head scratches or patting on the head.
I have noticed that over the last year or two there has been more public knowledge of human pup play, though it’s nowhere near as well known as the leather fetish community.

Sev: Do you have any advice or encouragement for puppies that want to follow your pawsteps in 2016?
Spot: For pups wanting to follow in my paw steps in the future the advice I’d give is: be yourself, a playful happy pup wags
Mr Puppy UK competition isn’t as daunting as it may seem, just be honest and have fun. I know I didn’t enjoy the interview section, but then that came down to having not been in that situation for over 10 years. The questions weren’t all that bad, and I just answered them with honest answers. The Talent section and the Agility course was a pups best friend to show off infront of the supporters.
What Mr Puppy UK will bring to the winner is entirely up to you to make it your own. Yes, there are a few ‘duties’ to perform during the holding of the title, but that still shouldn’t let that stop you being your pupself. The other pups in the community should still associate you with your normal pup personality, but the new pups will look up to you for support and some may even look to you as a role model. Your there to guide the new-born pups who are shy, or not quite yet found their paws.
To all pups out there, if you enter in 2016 into Mr Puppy UK or not is entirely your choice, nobody can make that decision for you… All I ask is that you all be the pup you want to be. Make your pup life fun, enjoyable and one to remember. Ask if you need help, there are plenty of pups out there to get support from, don’t be shy.
Oh, and one last thing to add (before I get pushed down from my high ‘soapbox’ spot on the furniture that I’m not allowed on as a pup) … Barks to clear throat … “Dreamer wish they’d done it, Doers are often glad they’d done it… be brave, have fun and take part in the competition in 2016. Honestly you have nothing to loose. No pup should think any less of you if you don’t win, they should be proud that you had the courage to take part.”
… Right now it’s time to hastily get off the furniture and resume “chase the tail ” and “kill the squeaky toy” (very few chew toys seem to be Spot proof)

Sev: Thank you for your time, and I wish you a great election year. May you get lots of treats and belly scrubs.
